If you are able to talk to the injured then first thing is to give reassurance to the person. This would reduce the anxiety and help you to get on with the job. Here are some of the simple First Aid measures. If in any, complications are found, always see a professional help.
Simple Cuts-- It might seem to you as a simple cut. But its this cut only which if not taken care of, grows to cause infection.
- Protect the cut covering it with a clean piece of cotton.
- Wash your hands and clean the wound under cold water.
- Dry the area and cover it with a protective bandage. If the wound becomes sore or fluid drips from it, its time to see your doctor!
- In case bleeding is severe do not clean the wound. Apply firm but steady pressure to the wound and use sterile bandage.
Burns can be caused either by sun or fire. Heated objects and water can as well call for emergency burns. In minor burns, the outer skin is burnt. Follow the steps to treat such burns at home-
- Run the cool water over the burn for several minutes, if you don't see any broken skin.
- Cover the affected area with sterile bandage.
- Give Aspirin in case of swelling or pain.
Insect bites or stings usually cause temporary uneasiness. If there is some allergic reaction some people might get into state of shock. In such cases professional help is advised.
- If any sting is left, a pair of tweezers can remove it.
- To reduce pain or swelling, apply some cold compress.
- If the sting is on throat then provide cold water to drink or ice cubes to suck and look for medical help.
Eye injury caused by foreign bodies like dirt, wood, metal chips causes tears in eyes. This process of tearing may rid the eye from foreign body. If it still remains, ask the victim to blink. You can also flush the eye with water, when blinking doesn't help.
Nose Bleeding-- In case of nose bleeding loosen the tight clothing, which is around chest or neck.
- You can ask the person to breathe from mouth, while pressing together the soft part of nose.
- Ask not to blow the nose even when the bleeding has stopped.
- If the bleeding doesn't stop, seek medical help.
Make sure to have a First Aid Kit at your place and also in your car. Do check and make sure to remove the outdated or no more sterile items from the kit. No matter how cautious you are, always be prepared for unexpected, for life is beautiful and all you need is to be a little careful!
